HYDRO, Oklahoma - More than 16 fire departments were represented at a funeral service for Hydro Fire Chief Nolan Ray Schmidt.
Services were held in Hydro Friday for the 37-year-old, who died Monday while fighting a grain bin fire in the small Caddo County community.
A volunteer firefighter since he was 18, Schmidt leaves behind a wife and two young daughters. He was a mechanic in the family business.
Besides those who filled the church sanctuary, hundreds of people flooded into the fellowship hall and watched the services on a big screen.
Outside, 34 fire trucks were lined along a fence.
Hundreds of people filed by Schmidt's casket, which was topped with his fire chief helmet.
