OKLAHOMA CITY -- Long gone are the days of using just TV and radio to warn you of severe weather.

When the weather gets rough, many Oklahomans turn to NEWS 9 Chief Meteorologist Gary England and the NEWS 9 Storm Trackers.

Along with clicking on News9.com, viewers can now track the team's work by logging onto Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates.

"It's an extra tool, an extra vehicle," NEWS 9 News Director Blaise Labbe said. "In the past, you had television and radio as distribution points."

Follow the NEWS 9 Team on Twitter
Labbe said the mobile society demands instant access to news and weather updates, which is why the NEWS 9 team of reporters, producers and storm trackers are now using social networking sites.

"Most of our reporters have Twitter pages and they do tweet consistently throughout the day on days like this, when we have severe weather," Labbe said.

If a storm knocks out power to a home, the resident inside can still follow Gary England and the team online by using a cell phone and logging on to Twitter, Facebook and News9.com.

"We have an interactive radar that you can go and give you real time information on where the storms are," Labbe said. "You can actually click and see the intensity of the rain, the lightning strikes. We have a very unique interactive look that no one else in the market has."

Not only can you find those of the NEWS 9 team on-air, but a number of our behind-the-scene staff members here at NEWS 9 also have a Facebook or Twitter account.
