OKLAHOMA CITY -- Spring breakers bound for Mexico are being warned of increased violence along the border. That has some students looking to steer clear of the mayhem, and find spring break destinations that won't break the bank.

Cancun is still one of the biggest hot spots and it isn't stopping spring breakers from heading south despite the government warnings of violence in Mexico.

"I'm concerned about the violence in the border regions, but the idea of not going to Cancun or Puerto Vallarta because of violence in Mexico border is kind of like saying ‘I'm not going to Chicago because someone was killed in New York.' It's just apples and oranges," said Bob Reichert with Sunshine Travel Service, Inc.

NEWS 9 caught up with a few students and they're not too worried either. From Branson, Missouri to Tyler, Texas and even trips to Chicago, many students are sticking to road trips around the states because of their tight budgets.

"I have a budget of $100 going there and that's it, no more," said Annisaa Vasthugatra, who's headed to Chicago for Spring Break.

"It's real low budget. We're not doing anything except hang out at the house. We're not really going anywhere," said Matthew Gossom, who is headed to Texas for his break.

Several popular vacation destinations this spring break also include Vegas, Orlando and Hawaii.
