Purcell, Oklahoma is an active city with population near 6,700. Purcell is an outer suburb of Oklahoma City located along the I-35 corridor in the central part of the state on a bluff overlooking the Canadian River. It is also the county seat for McClain County. More>>

  • Purcell was the home of one of the famous Harvey House restaurants that fed early railroad travelers. Also our former Canadian Theatre was an early day live theater where famous performers like the Marx Bros. and Mae West performed on.
  • The first Oklahoma statehood convention was held here, September 30, 1893.
  • Since its beginning, Purcell’s residents have been concerned with education. The first school in the area and the second in all of Indian Territory was S Elizabeth’s Academy. Founded in 1888, it was an active educational Institution for local students until 1968.
  • “Hooker Bridge” was the first toll bridge built across the river and was built completely of wood. Construction was completed September 29, 1899. But its life span was ended October 1904 when it was washed away and the people had to go back to “fording the river.” Another bridge was built in 1911 and was declared as the first 3,400 feet of highway from Chicago to the Gulf. Now Eastern motorists going to Houston could finally cross the treacherous South Canadian. This bridge proved to be insufficient to handle the automobile traffic which U.S. 77 poured across it, and the present causeway was erected in 1937. Transportation has played a key role in the growth and development of the city. From the earliest “river crossing” days to the time when the railroad was in its heyday and up to the pm’s, to the current vast interstate highway system linking North and South.

Rodney's Pizza Party

Rodney Powers, owner of Rodney’s Pizza Place, has been tossing pizzas since 1972. A family owned and operated restaurant, Rodney’s is a staple of our community. Rodney’s Pizza Place offers over 40 varieties of pizza, with crust made fresh daily. From 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, join us for half price pizza from 4pm-6pm (Dine in only so come say hello!) and watch live reports with Gary England, Val Castor and Darren Brown, and enjoy a fun Meet & Greet.

Community Visits

Purcell Middle School

Gary England will teach kids about Oklahoma weather during an entertaining and informative weather presentation. Val Castor will join in on the fun with a special presentation.

Leadership Luncheon

Christina Eckert and Kelly Ogle will participate in a special noon discussion meeting of Purcell leaders at McClain County Farm and Home Building Catered by Bravos Mexican food.

Purcell High School

Robin Marsh, Stan Miller and Jed Castles will drop by Purcell High School on Thursday to see what trouble they can get into - watch out PHS! And, Lauren Nelson will make a guest appearance at the Jazz Choir's class to pick up a trick or two.
