Over one-third of the Regional Food Bank's emergency food recipients on a weekly basis are children. There is a critical connection between childhood nutrition, cognitive and physical development. Even nutritional deficiencies of a short-term nature negatively impact a child's health, behavior, and the ability to concentrate and perform complex tasks. Going without food can cause behavioral and psychological effects such as depression, aggression, anxiety, and poor social skills. Food is the most essential school supply.
When Hunger Ends, Learning Begins. Food for Kids currently has four programs to help combat this problem: The Backpack Program, Kid's Cafe, the Summer Feeding Program and School Pantries, a pilot program launched at Putnam City West that will be expanding to middle and high schools very soon.
It only costs $200 to feed a child for an entire year.
A $200 donation can provide enough weekend and holiday food for one child for an entire school year. A gift of $5,000 will provide enough food for 25 hungry children at one school for an entire school year. Please donate now to the Regional Food Bank.
