Amelia Mugavero is a multi-media journalist for Oklahoma’s Own News On 6. Amelia was born and raised in Dallas, Texas.
Amelia attended the University of Oklahoma for two semesters, and then relocated to the Midwest to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Why Illinois? Amelia is a world champion baton twirler and was offered the prestigious position of Feature Twirler for the Marching Illini. There she twirled for all home games, as well as performed at Chicago Bears games, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland.
She comes from Denison, Texas where she was a reporter and weekend anchor/producer for KTEN News. At KTEN, Amelia covered much of Southeast Oklahoma, particularly Durant and Ada.
Amelia has produced investigative pieces, such as high incarceration rates and wrongful convictions in Oklahoma and was the political reporter for the 2018 Primary elections in Oklahoma.
Amelia competed in the Miss Illinois pageant for three years, holding the titles of Miss Central Illinois in 2015 and 2017, Miss Springfield 2016 and was first-runner up to Miss Illinois 2016.
A few of Amelia’s favorite things include going to church, spending time with family, cheering on the Fighting Illini and the Patriots, and eating good Mexican food (she is always looking for recommendations!). If you see Amelia out and about around Tulsa, please stop and say hi!
