OKLAHOMA CITY -- This time off school has children of all ages searching for something to do.

With snow and ice still packed on the ground, imaginations are running wild, but before you let your little ones run around outside, there may be a winter weather warning from one metro family.

Most kids will tell you this is the perfect stuff to play in, but one young lady says it came close to taking her life.

It's not a sight you see often in Oklahoma so when the conditions are right families take full advantage of the fun.

"We're sledding, we're having a good time, we're drinking hot chocolate, we're having fun," Thomas Sanchez said.

The snow and sleet was fun and games for most, but for Sara Harshaw it's been a day she'd rather forget. Her dog, Drama, created a whole lot of it by chasing a stick onto this some-what frozen pond.

"I heard a few cracks and I thought, 'Oh, its fine'," Hershaw said.

That's when the pond broke open, and Drama fell in. Sara's mom watched her daughter begin to panic.

"She was crying, 'Come on, Drama. Don't drown on me. Come on Baby'," Valerie Hershaw said.

The 15-year-old was determined to save her dog. So, she too crawled onto the ice.

"She was in the water for five minutes, and then I was in the water," Sara said. "My first thoughts were, 'I got to get my dog, but I better get myself out first'."

Luckily the two managed to make it out of the frigid waters before it was too late. A few minutes more in the water and Sara, along with her dog, could have been in real trouble.

"It was really scary, really scary," Sara said. "It was really cold."
