OKLAHOMA CITY -- Despite low gas prices throughout the metro, Oklahoma City residents are still watching how often and how far they drive.

The $4 gas prices from just six months ago have left an impression on many drivers.

According to a recent Gallup Poll, $4 gas prices did such a number on people's wallets, most drivers are doing their part in trying to prevent $4 gas prices from ever coming back.

Gallup's study said based on those who changed their driving habits as a result of the high gas prices, a majority continue to keep driving at a minimum which experts say is key to keeping gas prices in check.

"If we can maintain a low demand, conserve our fuel, drive smarter, drive more fuel efficient vehicles, drive fewer miles, we can keep the price of fuel reasonable," said Chuck Mai with AAA Oklahoma.

The poll also found of those who did change their driving when gas prices were high, younger people have been the ones most likely to go back to their old driving habits.
