OKLAHOMA CITY -- Downtown Oklahoma City is getting dressed up for the most crowded Bricktown event of the year.

The Arts Council of Oklahoma City said it takes all year to plan the big event, but Tuesday morning is when the physical labor of setting everything up began. The ball will rise to ring in the New Year in downtown.

"It's got 5,000 lights on it," said Peter Dolese, executive director of the Arts Council of Oklahoma City.

Around 60,000 people are expected in Bricktown on New Year's Eve to celebrate in a family friendly atmosphere. No alcohol will be allowed, and children-oriented activities will be in abundance.

"We have magicians, arts and crafts, puppets," said Emily Reagan, with the Arts Council. "We have a giant Lite Brite for the kids to play with."

Wristbands for Opening Night are $8 if purchased before the event. They're available at several locations, including Penn Square Mall, 7-11s, Homelands and MidFirst banks. Get all the details about Opening Night on the Art Council of Oklahoma City's Web site.
