OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma may be better off than most of the country when it comes to job lose, but many metro residents aren't taking any chances.

Some women are turning to self-employment through a service that is always in demand despite the economy -- babysitting.

"With us having a third baby on the way just dictated that we needed a little more income," mother Jennifer McReynolds said.

So she bought into the franchise "Seeking Sitters," a service that provides safe, reliable babysitters in parts of Oklahoma and other areas of the country.

"It's important to me that my kids get good care, and so obviously I can hopefully provide that for other families," McReynolds said.

She doesn't have to worry about layoffs; it's a business that is almost recession proof. That's because with so many other people taking extra jobs and working extra hours, they need someone to take care of their kids.

Job security is the same reason University of Central Oklahoma student Paige Sealock started a local sitter service called Sweet Sitters.

"I knew I didn't want to work for someone else for the rest of my life. I want to be in control of my time," Sealock said.

Sealock runs the business side, while her friends make extra bucks babysitting for clients. She has big dreams for her homegrown business.

"I would like to expand more south of Oklahoma City, Norman area and then possibly Tulsa," Sealock said.

Both self-starters are in it for the long haul and believe they will weather any economic hardship.

"It's a great plan b and it's very secure," Sealock said.
