TECUMSEH, OKla. -- Modern technology meant the difference between life and death recently after abduction in Tecumseh.
Pottawatomie County's enhanced 911 has been up and running for only two months, but it's already proven its work by locating the victim of a reported abduction
Donna Danner came to the Tecumseh police department November 2 seeking their help.
"She informed me that she had some men following her, wearing masks in a green truck," dispatcher Julie Daniels said. "I advised her to stay in the lobby, that I would have an office come and speak to her as soon as I had one available."
Danner left the lobby before an officer could talk to her. Several hours later Donna Danner was heard from again, this time via 911.
Click here to listen to the 911 call."The girls...had the screen pulled up that was actually pinpointing where the call was located. We went directly to that map and was able to identify the areas," Lt. J.R. Kidney said.
Minutes later, emergency crews found Danner at the bottom of a 17 foot ditch. She was flown to an Oklahoma City hospital.
The E-911 system was spot-on.
"Miss Danner kept telling us over and over she had no idea where she was at, which would have left us no idea where she was at," Kidney said. "We were able to look at that computer screen, and it was pinpointing her exact location."
Danner's abduction remains under investigation, but her discovery and rescue might have taken much longer had the people of Pottawatomie County not invested millions of dollars in a state of the art 911.
Danner was treated and released from the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
