OKLAHOMA CITY -- Veterans Day, an American holiday to celebrate and honor our military veterans is on November 11. Events are happening all across the metro to give thanks to our American heroes.

Veterans Day is also known as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day because of the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.

On Monday, Nov. 10, the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City will host its annual Veteran Day ceremony. Maj. Gen. Loren Reno, commander of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base, will speak at the ceremony.

On Tuesday Nov. 11, the 45th Infantry Division Museum will hold its annual one hour Veterans Day ceremony. The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. and will feature military and civilian color guards, the 145th Army Band and a keynote address from Maj. Gen. Harry M Wyatt, Oklahoma's adjutant general.

For more information about this event, visit the museum's Web site.

Reaves Park in Norman will also host a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. A new memorial will be dedicated to honor Cleveland County veterans. There will also be a helicopter flyover and a keynote speech from Brig. Gen. Myles Deering, the commander of the 45th Infantry Brigade, which recently returned from Iraq.

A great evening event for families that's free on Veteran's Day is a special musical salute at Oklahoma City University. The Oklahoma City Symphonic Band will perform a symphonic patriotic salute to veterans at the Petree Recital Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

For more information about this musical celebration, call 822-9550 or visit the Oklahoma City University Web site.
