LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Fire crews north of Los Angeles are working quickly to improve their grip on a wildfire in Angeles National Forest before Santa Ana winds kick in. Gusts up to 60 miles per hour are expected.

The fire has already charred more than 2,000 acres and driven more than 1,000 people from their homes. It's only 20 percent contained.

To the north, a fire on an island in San Francisco Bay has charred 250 acres and forced evacuation of 30 or 40 campers.

A spokesman for Marin County Fire says the blaze on Angel Island began last night. At one time it threatened several buildings, but that danger has reportedly been reduced.

The spokesman says some 200 firefighters will soon be on site.
