DEWAR, Okla. -- Dig deep into the countryside and you find Dewar, Oklahoma. Football's about as fast-paced as it gets in this town of 900.

"Man, what's there to do in Dewar? Play football I guess," said Dewar football coach Josh Been. "It's pretty much the answer to that question."

When the pads and jerseys are put away, Dewar's bluest blue chip prospect catches his breath in the greenest part of Green Country.

Ronnell Lewis rides horses now, but this country boy once dreamed of becoming a bull rider.

"It's fun. It's an adrenaline rush. That's what gets me," Lewis said. "It's like being out there on the football field with thousands of fans screaming and hollering."

At football coach Josh Been's ranch, he prefers Ronnell riding the hospitable horses over the brutish bulls.

"When he first came around Dewar that was one of the first things we tried to tell him, ‘Ronnell you can ride bulls later on in life,'" Been said.

"They're both physical sports and I like them both but I had to give up one," Lewis said.

Although his bull riding days are done, being in the business of split second decisions served the Dewar senior well when the Oklahoma Sooners offered him a scholarship. He made up his mind and committed to OU in a matter of seconds.

"I was just like, ‘man if OU offered me I would take it.' It's the place I want to go and be around that environment," Lewis said. "It's a pretty cool place down there."

For now, Ronnell revels in Dewar's delight; boots on, saddled up to life's simple pleasures.

"I'm really working hard just trying to be somebody and go out there and make a name for myself," Ronnell said.
