WARR ACRES, Okla. - An Oklahoma City police office shot a teenager Saturday at Twin Lakes Apartments, police said.

The officer heard shots coming from the complex on NW 63 shortly after 10 p.m. When he arrived, the officer saw three juveniles driving a car backwards through the parking lot. The car crashed into another vehicle then the driver jumped out of his car and ran, police said.

"The driver jumped out, our officer gave chase, engaged that individual, resulting in the officer discharging his weapon at the suspect," Captain Steve McCool said.

Witnesses at the scene said the teen never threatened the officer.

"He wasn't doing nothing he was backing up," said Chris Jones, who lives in the apartment complex. "He wasn't trying to run. He didn't even have a gun on him."

Witnesses said they are unsure what prompted the shooting.

"The cop had a rifle, telling everybody to back up telling them back up," said Jones. "Everybody was screaming and cussing. It was pretty chaotic."

The teen was taken to the OU Trauma Center in serious condition.

The other two teens, who were in the car, were taken into custody for questioning, but police have not said if they were charged.

The officer was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The names of the officer and the teen have not been released.
