Masked lurker scares morning workout class

EDMOND, Okla. -- Some metro residents didn't have to see the movie "Scream" to get a scare.

A morning workout class at Hafer Park was disrupted Thursday by a person wearing a long black trench coat and "Scream" mask. The lurker walked in and out of the woods near the field the class was using.

Eileen Hatfield leads Operation Bootcamp at Hafer Park.

"He was trying to be creepy," Hatfield said. "The way he was walking, it wasn't like he was hiding from us, he wanted us to see him."

It caught Eileen and the other off guard.

"I'm very comfortable here and I let my guard down," Hatfield said.

Edmond police are concerned about this incident because Hafer Park is busy at all times. While the masked stranger didn't break any laws Eilleen said she has learned a valuable lesson.

"I think the biggest lesson is be aware, have somebody with you," Hatfield said. "The buddy system is good; have your cell phone on you."

Police did find a pair on men's underwear and a T-shirt near the scene. They are not sure if that is related to the incident.

No one else witnessed the masked person.

Edmond police said to always carry a cell phone if you are at a park and call 911 right away if you see anything out of the ordinary.
