A Midwest City mother is grieving the death of her 16-year-old son.

"I never would have imagined to lose my son; I wouldn't have imagined I would bury my son," Antiganee Kemp said. "I always thought my son - I would go before my son."

Larell Kemp died Monday morning after being shot Sunday night in what police said was likely gang related.

So far, there have been no arrests made and police are asking if anyone has any information to call them.

Meanwhile, the teen's mother had a message for those involved in gangs.

"I kept him busy so he wouldn't have a lot of idle time to do anything, but I guess I didn't keep him busy enough," Antiganee said.

Antiganee wondered if she did enough to save her son. Larell and a 20-year-old man were shot Sunday night at the Orchard Springs Apartments in Midwest City. Police said it happened when about 30 people got into an argument.

"I seen the Bloods coming, and the Crips standing outside," one witness said. "I was like, ‘Nah, we got to get out of the line of fire.' Right when I said that they started shooting, I ran."

Adding to the tragedy, Larell was not supposed to be at the apartments. After recently getting into trouble with the law, Antiganee had banned her son from the apartments. He was also in summer school and working a part-time job.

But now, the mother who fought to keep her son out of trouble must bury him, and begging those in gangs to get out.

"This is real, this is not a joke," she said. "Use his testimony to Larell to wake you up. We don't want to bury another young man like I have to bury my son."

Antiganee asked that no one retaliate for her son's murder. She said the police will handle the investigation and no one else needs to die.

Police said the second shooting victim, Cameron Jordon, was shot in the leg and is expected to recover.

Larell's family is raising money to pay for funeral expenses. They are hosting a car wash and bake sale Thursday and Friday and the Autozone on NE 23 and Martin Luther King Ave. Donations can also be made to a fund set up at Chase Bank.
