NORMAN, Okla. - A metro grandfather is encouraging people to use life jackets after his granddaughter drowned in Lake Thunderbird.

Bruce Burkhalter's 7-year-old granddaughter Victoria drowned at Lake Thunderbird three years ago. She wasn't wearing a life jacket. Now he donates dozens of life jackets to the lake every year.

"It just takes a second for them to get away from you; always wear the life jackets," Burkhalter said. "Hopefully somebody uses them keep their child from drowning not have to go through what our family did."

The family of another girl who drowned at the lake also donates life jackets.
