Jake Davis, a seven-year-old Cub Scout, used his water safety knowledge to save a life. Jake was swimming in the deep end of the pool, when another child lost control in the water, and grabbed for him.

"I was scared, really scared," Jake said.

Jake was able to grab the other boy by the wrist and hold him up for air.

"He jumped up on me and I was holding him above water long enough for the lifeguard to come get us," Jake said.

Linda Briggs watched as the rescue took place.

"I turned and saw his face," Briggs said. "I just knew the face of help."

Another mother alerted the lifeguard who dove into action and was able to pull the boys out of the water. In Cub Scouts, the boys learn water safety and survival skills, but Jake's mother said she never thought he would put the skill to use at such a young age.

"I think he's happy," Jake's mother Julie Davis said. "He knows he did a good thing."

Scout leaders presented Jake with a certificate, awarding him for his courage.

"They know to watch out for each other," Briggs said. "They know to help each other. They know to protect each other."
