Decades after he was a high school student, John Daniels earned the title of Prom King.

Daniels won the drawing Friday for the prestigious title at the 12th annual Senior Prom sponsored by INTEGRIS Health. The event is designed to give metro seniors from assisted living centers and nursing homes a chance to socialize.

"This is the first time I've ever been king," Daniels said. "It's kind of embarrassing in one way, and in another, it feels great. They don't let you get in front of the line or anything, but I did get a crown, so that's great."

Lyn Hester, INTEGRIS vice president of marketing, said the event grows each year.

"We started 12 years ago," Hester said. "We had about 47 people, and as you can see, it really has grown."

Just like regular proms, the event has been the scene of romantic connections, Hester said.

"We've even had people meet here and get married," she said. "It's quite the place. If you're looking for a good place to pick somebody up, this might be it."

Evelyn Brooks- Anglin said she enjoys the proms so much, she renewed her wedding vows with her husband at the 2006 prom.

"My husband and I got married in November 2005 and the next prom we had renewed our vows because we just ran off and got married," Anglin said.

On Friday, Anglin walked away as the prom queen.

"I just got the winning number to be the Queen of the prom, and it was very exciting," she said.

Fellow prom royalty Daniels also said the proms are exciting.

"If you're 55 or older, I think you ought to come to the Senior Prom," he said. "I think it's great."
