AMES, Okla. -- A train has derailed in Major County after trying to cross tracks that had apparently been washed out by a rain-swollen creek.

The incident occurred about 6 p.m. on Monday southwest of Ames, resulting in the derailment of 10 cars. Workers from Farmrail, the company which runs the train, assessed the damage on Tuesday. No injuries occurred as a result of the derailment.

Rodney Roof, the manager of business development for Clinton-based Farmrail, says the train runs daily Monday through Friday from Enid to Southard, carrying gypsum and wheat among its cargo.

It's not known how long it will take to repair the washed-out section of track.
