I wanted to pass along some additional information from my health story today, which discussed knowing particular things about yourself relating to your health.

It may sound inconsequential, but all of these things together could really give you a clearer picture of your over all health.

1. First your body composition. A normal BMI is 19-25.

2. Your family's health history- at www.family history.hhs.gov  it has questions you should ask and ways to manage your health history.

3. Know your cancer risk- the American Cancer society has a check list at www.cancer.org/greatamericans

4. Know cholesteral levels- Your total number should be under 200mg/dL, with an LDL (the bad cholestoral) of less than 100mg/dL and an HDL (good cholestoral) of 50 mg/DL or more.

5. know resting heart rate-- Take your pulse in the morning when you're most relaxed.

Measure the number of beats in 10 seconds, then multiply by 6. Your number should be between 60 and 80, even lower if your athletic.

6. Know your waist to hip ratio- Measure the SMALLEST point of your waist.. and your hips at the WIDEST point.

Divide the first number by the second number; an ideal ratio is 0.8 or lower.
