OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police arrested a suspect on Thursday after the person tried to use a vehicle to hit two officers, prompting one of the officers to fire his gun.

Police said that when officers responded to a robbery in northwest Oklahoma City, the suspect backed a vehicle toward and hit one of the officers, knocking the officer into a fence.

Police said that as the suspect tried to hit the second officer with the vehicle, the officer fired his weapon in the suspect's direction and that the suspect exited the vehicle and climbed over a fence.

The first suspect that was shot left a trail of blood the officers followed to a house near Rockwell Ave. and NW 63 St. Police said the suspect kicked in a door of a house. A family was at home at the time. Police followed the man, removed him from the house and arrested him, Sgt. Paco Balderrama said.

"The family appears to be OK, obviously very shaken up," Balderrama said.

The suspect had received a non-life-threatening grazing wound and was taken to an area hospital.

The injured detective was still being treated at an area hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the suspect will be charged with robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
