NEWS 9's Gary England has racked up many awards over the years. But Friday was something special, with Gary receiving a University of Oklahoma Regents' Alumni award--and being honored at a reception at the National Weather Center.

Both events took place in Norman, with dozens in attendance.

Gary's career started long ago in Seiling, Okla.

Gary became a meteorologist at KWTV. And over the years he built a reputation for accuracy and reliability.

"Next to the Bible, Gary England, you know, is what we live by in our household," University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren said.

Gary's commitment to public safety is well known. So is his support for his alma mater, the University of Oklahoma.

A Regents' Alumni award, plus a reception in his honor at the National Weather Center proved to be quite a day for Gary.

"Gary was one of the first graduates in the meteorology department here at OU and is well-known by literally hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans," Frederick H. Carr with the University of Oklahoma School of Meteorology said.

"Getting married, getting out of college, getting a great job in television, a lot of great things have happened along the way, but this stands out, this is truly an honor," Gary said.

The boy from Seiling has fulfilled his dream.

The Regents' Alumni Award Gary received is given to honor alumni and friends for exceptional dedication and service to the University of Oklahoma.
