Shopping on a budget doesn't mean you have to forgo convenience. Before your trip to the store, spend some time checking out what you already have in stock so you don't overbuy and also try to plan meals that use these items.

  • Take time upfront to plan out a week's worth of meals so that you can avoid making expensive, impulsive trips to the market.
  • Make a list of what you plan to prepare for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day and use that to create your shopping list
  • Take your grocery dollar further by choosing recipes that let you swap out more expensive fresh vegetables for just as delicious and nutritious canned ones.
  • Also, opt for more economical brands, like Libby's, with the same level of quality as other well-known brands.

Stick to your list and try to find products that will consistently offer you quality for a good value week after week. If you find a sale on something you need or a product that does not perish, go for it.

Also, push your cart past the pricey end-of-aisle displays to the middle of the aisle. You should avoid products displayed at eye-level and look for brands placed on the upper and lower shelves for the best deals.
