Oklahoma City officials are kicking off a new initiative to encourage people to recycle.

The city is giving out $100 a week for the next 12 weeks to residents who enter the "Your Blue Bin" Contest.  Residents must fill out the card they received in the mail and return it. If their recycle bin is out by the curb the same week their name is drawn, they win $100. The contest runs through July 7.

"Anything that we can do to educate people and bring attention to it is something that we believe in," Mayor Mick Cornett said.

Officials said the number of people like Saundra Westerwelle, who participate in the city's recycling program, is declining.

"There's not going to be anyplace for our grandchildren to live," Westerwelle said. "It's going to be all garbage."

This weekend, the city is collecting e-cycle items including old computers and TVs and other items that can't be put in a blue bin, but can be recycled, said Barbara Nussa with the city's Waste Management division.

"We want to reuse everything that is going into a computer monitor or a TV," she said.

The e-cycle day is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the State Fairgrounds.
