Staff and wire reports

Checotah, Okla. -- Authorities are searching for the driver of a minivan, accused of hitting and killing a 17-year-old girl over the weekend.

Crystal Strange and a friend were taking pictures in the middle of Texanna Road near Interstate 40 at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday near Checotah, in McIntosh County. A white Chevy minivan with tinted windows hit Strange, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said. A friend with Strange Friday night said she was still alive after the collision, but died later from her injuries.

The driver continued driving southbound after hitting Strange and never stopped to check on the girl, authorities said.

According to Strange's family, she was a student at Bacone College majoring in journalism.
