WOODWARD, Okla. -- A fire training class turned all-too-real for some firefighters in northwestern Oklahoma.

Woodward County fire officials said a grass fire call came in Thursday during a training class for firefighters at High Plains Area Vo-Tech.

Authorities said it started as a controlled burn on the Woodward-Harper County line. As the fire grew out of control, firefighters from Clark County, Kansas joined crews from Woodward, Beaver, Woods, Ellis and Dewey Counties in battling the blaze.

About 3,000 acres were burned, officials said.

At 5 p.m., no injuries were reported and officials said some structures had been threatened but none were damaged.
