One college freshman is reaching beyond his campus into the world of politics.

University of Oklahoma freshman John Tyler Hammons has set his goal high. The student is in the race to become Mayor of Muskogee.

Tuesday, the 19-year-old finished first in that race, gathering 42 percent of the votes.

Now, students on the OU campus have taken notice to the ambitions of the young politician.
Hammons still has a way to go before possibly taking office. The runoff against former Mayor Herschel McBride will be held on May 13.

Hammons believes his ambition will make up for his lack of experience.

As far as Hammons is concerned, winning the mayoral race is just the beginning.
