Some popular professional basketball players are speaking out about the Seattle SuperSonic's possible move to Oklahoma.

Shaquille O'Neal made comments in a Seattle newspaper that upset some Oklahoma basketball fans, including Adam McGuire.

"When I saw that Shaq said he would never play for us, I figured we don't need you anyway because you're old and past your prime," McGuire said.

In four words, Shaq said "it's dumb, it's stupid."

He also told a Seattle sports columnist that "Oklahoma City's a college town."

Shaq said if his son ever asked about the Oklahoma City Sonics, he would tell him there's no such thing.

Kyle Hey was angry over Shaq's comments.

"Just very ill informed apparently he hasn't been to Oklahoma City enough," Hey said.

Others aren't surprised why Shaq is taking sides.

"I think Shaquille's comments about Seattle are understandable, he's played in that arena for a lot of years and he has fond memories of it," said Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett.

Cornett wants to make NBA basketball more than a memory in Oklahoma City. He said fans proved when the Hornets were here that we're more than a college town.

"There are strong comments from Lebron James and Kobe Bryant about how OKC and the excitement level that was generated by the Hornets crowd, it excited them about the future of basketball in our city," Cornett said.

The Seattle sports writer also talked to Phoenix Suns player Grant Hill, who is siding with Seattle fans and only remembers Oklahoma City as a quote "bad road trip."
