Poll: Gas prices concern consumers

A recent study revealed Oklahomans are cutting back at the pump.

Researchers at Oklahoma City University conducted the Consumer Confidence Poll to see how consumers across mid-America on how they feel about gas and shopping. Download the poll results. (PDF)

"The results of this are interesting, not completely unexpected," Economics Professor Steve Agee said. "We did find that people are cutting back on gasoline expenditures."

Shopper Chuck Adams said sticker shock at the pump translated to penny pinching for him.

"I'm not buying as much food and not going to eat out as much, most of it gas," Adams said.

While some are saving cash, the survey shows consumers are across mid-America are confident about spending although not too optimistic about businesses.

"They expect businesses are going to be worse off than they did during our polling last year," Professor Agee said.

While other states are seeing an ailing housing market Oklahoma City seems untouched, according to poll results.

The Consumer Confidence Poll interviewed 700 households in time to send the results out to the Federal market committee meeting in Washington on Tuesday.
