A new baby boy entered the world last week in a metro parking lot.

EMSA deals with all sorts of emergencies, many of them involving death.

Tuesday, they had an emergency at the other end of the spectrum--a birth of a baby.

The Schmidt family--Maggie, Bill, big brother Billy, and little brother Eli-- are all safe at home now. But it was touch and go last week.

Maggie's water burst while she was parked in this Wal-Mart parking lot. EMSA personnel loaded her into an ambulance for a ride to the hospital.
Three minutes later she had a baby.

"Basically after I got in, she said, ‘What do you feel like doing? Are you ready to go to the hospital, or are you ready to have the baby?' And I said, ‘No, we're having the baby.' She said, ‘Okay, go for it.' And I pushed one big push, and I had a baby," baby's mother, Maggie Schmidt said.

"I'm glad that they were okay," baby's father, Bill Schmidt said.

Someday, little Eli will hear all about his parking lot delivery.

"I'm going to tell him that he was in an awful big hurry to get into the world," Bill said. "And, that he just couldn't wait. So, he was born in an ambulance because he was very impatient."
