State lawmakers have some Shawnee high school students to thank for a recent piece of legislation.
Representative Kris Steele challenged members of the Shawnee Youth Coalition to come up with an idea that would better our state. He said if that idea was good enough he'd try to turn it into state law.
"And so what the Shawnee Youth Coalition has done, is they have suggested that all the pre-natal care that we offer in Oklahoma should include some components related to some education about prevention and the negative effects of drug and alcohol abuse on minors," Rep. Kris Steele (R) Shawnee said.
House Bill 2705 was approved in committee and now moves to the full house for a vote.
