Metro Girl Scouts welcomed this weekend's warmer weather.

The recent cold snap put a damper on their cookie sales, bringing out some creative sales techniques.

"We had a lot of cold weather the first part of January so it's been hard for the girls to want to get out and sell cookies," Trooper Leader Julie Murray said.

The lost cookie profits means a dip in money that goes to Girl Scout programs and events, Murray said.

"We asked the girls to make sales calls to either their parent's employment or other agencies," she said.

The scouts also are trying to help troops serving overseas this year.

"We have a new program we started this year," Murray said. "It's called troops for troops. Our girls are asking if they get told ‘I'm on a diet' or ‘don't want cookies this year,' well would you be willing to donate a box of cookies or case of cookies for the troops."

So while the girls may have been stuck inside, they didn't let it stop them from learning sales techniques and other valuable lessons.

"It helps you become good at money management," Scout Lauren Peters said. "When you get older and have a house of your own and your parents aren't taking care of you anymore, you need to know how much money you have so you can buy food and stuff."
