Local company in top 100

Oklahoma City based Devon Energy Corporation has good reason to celebrate. Fortune magazine recently named the independent oil and gas producer one of the top 100 best companies to work for in the nation.

Devon ranked 48th on this year's list, the highest ranking ever for an oil and gas company.

Communications Specialist David Klaasen said Devon is one of the largest employers in the state. 

"The fact that we're now recognized as the one of the best employers in not just the state but in the nation that's something everybody in Oklahoma should be proud of," Klaasen said.

Devon is the largest publicly traded company in Oklahoma and employs more than 5,000 people worldwide. Of those, about 1,300 work in Oklahoma.  Ryan Miller is a recent hire at Devon, but said the company is a perfect fit. 

"If you see your CEO dressed up as a rock star trying to help raise money, he's more worried about the community than he is about his own personal appearance, which is totally cool," Miller said.

Chairman and CEO Larry Nichols said he's not afraid to let his hair down, even if it is a rock star wig.  Nichols said even the energy industry can be fun.

"We try to create a culture where people can further their careers, where they can have fun and work hard at the same time in an atmosphere of trust, mutual cooperation, and just have a good time doin' it."
