The OU campus took a hard hit in December's ice storms. More than a 1,000 trees were lost, and it will cost the University $1.7 million for clean-up, pruning, removal, and planting new trees.

No matter where you look there's damage. Trees look stripped, and debris still lies about. Students, just back from vacation, notice a difference.

"In certain places it looks butchered," graduate student Matt Waldroop said.

Officials are asking students to pitch in to clean up the debris on Jan. 26.

OU's first President, David Ross Boyd, planted the first trees on campus more than a century ago. OU plans a huge new tree planting in the spring. But first all the debris must be cleared.

Landscaping crews are hauling off the large items. But there's still plenty of small branches that have to be picked up.
