A new crop of sorts could soon change the Bricktown skyline.

A proposal for what would be the tallest building in the entertainment district goes in front of a committee for approval next week.

Ideas for the now grassy area have been in the works since owner Gary Cotton bought the lot a year and a half ago.

"This thing's been in progress since then," Cotton said. "I tried to make it all fit, you know, has been the hard part."

The plan calls for a three-story building on one side of the canal connected to a 12-story building on the other side.

The plans show two stories of retail, and then four stories of parking, with condos reaching up to 12 stories with offices, restaurants and retail in the smaller three-story building.

Officials said they are excited about the prospect of the $36 million project.

"We're still seeing the fruits of MAPS that passed over 15 years ago," said Jim Cowan, Bricktown Association executive director. "Yet there are still $30 million deals put in place because a canal that has been put in place by taxes."

The preliminary name of the project is the "Cotton Exchange". Developer Cotton hopes to break ground this Spring, pending approval.
