Police and highway patrol troopers will be out in large numbers this New Year's to make sure everyone gets to and from parties safely.
This year, officers will be on heightened alert because New Year's Eve falls on a three-day weekend. Party-goers will be traveling all across the state and authorities want to drive home a simple point. If you drink and drive, you lose.
"Making DUI arrests is actually something troopers enjoy making because we know we're making a significant difference in the lives of Oklahomans," said Captain Chris West of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
During this time last year, three people died in separate traffic crashes. Thirty others were injured in crashes related to drugs and alcohol.
