There are some big changes to one of the biggest parties of the year.

Work crews scattered Sunday across downtown Oklahoma City to get ready for Opening Night 2008.

Thousands are expected to be here in Kerr Park to ring in the new year and there's several new ways to do it.

The Flaming Lips will take the stage at the Cox Center on New Year's Eve.

"It's really exciting, there's something going on all over," said Lindsey Pever, Opening Night director.

Pever said she hopes this year's crowd will top last year's 68,000.

"If you're not inside a building, then on the outside we have performers, fireworks," she said. "It's a huge, huge event."

The ball and crane will arrive here in Kerr Park sometime tomorrow.

The fun begins at 7 p.m. and ends with the big countdown and fireworks show at midnight.

If you can't make it to downtown for the countdown, you can always watch the festivities live on NEWS 9.
