A 46-year-old woman and her 7-year-old daughter have been found dead after floodwaters swept their car off a low bridge in Tulsa County on Sunday, according to authorities.
The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened around 17700 E. Highway 64 Sunday afternoon.
TCSO said the Broken Arrow family involved had four people inside the vehicle. They said the father and 10-year-old daughters were able to escape while the car filled with water, while the mother and their 7-year-old daughter could not. Authorities identified the mother as Leila Seyed Faraji, 46, on Monday.
Authorities said approximately 100 emergency responders were involved in the search effort for the child on Monday. TCSO said that a boat crew from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol located the body of 7-year-old Rosa Faraji shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday.
"It's a mixture of emotions because the search is over. They were successful in what they came here to do, but this isn't the way we wanted this to end. We desperately wanted to find them alive tonight, but we knew going into this morning that wasn't going to be the outcome, but you always hope for a miracle," said Casey Roebuck, TCSO.
Officials say the car attempted to cross over a low bridge, but the water level was too high, resulting in the car being submerged.
TCSO Captain Michael Heisten stressed the importance of turning around when there's water in the roadway.
"We're coming into a rainy season. We've had a significant amount of rainfall in the last few days. And I can't stress enough that if there's water in the roadway, please turn around. We want everybody to get home to their families safely," Heisten said.
