Three people have been arrested after an investigation into a scam involving inmates inside the Oklahoma County Detention Center, police say.
OCDC says an investigation started when inmate Jaquoryon Cobb allegedly told another inmate he had a contact who could help with posting bond.
Investigators say Cobb told the inmate to have someone on the outside call a phone number, where Cobb's mom and aunt were posing as a licensed bondsman.
Jail officials say the inmate’s family was then told to send $1,000 through CashApp as payment to secure the inmate’s release. After sending the money, the family says did not receive services, and it was later determined that the person on the phone had no legal authority as a bondsman.
Investigators say Cobb’s mother and aunt, China and Diamond Cobb, were also arrested in connection with the scam.
The two are facing charges of obtaining money under false pretenses. Jaquoryon is facing charges for orchestrating fraud from the detention center.
OCDC says the investigation is ongoing, and the three could face other charges.
