Geary High School is turning to the community for support after a fire severely damaged the school and destroyed its gymnasium. Students remain out of class as district officials work on a plan to resume instruction.

Community members have already begun donating supplies, with the first contributions received by the Geary Volunteer Fire Department at the Family Dollar. Two fire department crew members work at the store, making it a central drop-off point.

The Superintendent of Geary Public Schools stated that while the district awaits insurance assessments, monetary donations to benefit the students are welcome. Those wishing to donate to the Geary Volunteer Fire Department can contribute cash or supplies like bottled water and sports drinks at the Family Dollar in Geary.

The fire marks the second major blaze to impact the school, with a similar incident occurring in the 1960s.
