After battling wildfires for seven days, the Luther Volunteer Fire Department faced a daunting task: cleaning thick layers of mud, dirt and ash from their trucks. But this time, they weren’t alone.
Community members stepped in to help firefighters wash their rigs, a small way to show appreciation for those who worked tirelessly to protect their town.
“If the community wants to help, let them come wash our trucks,” said Capt. Fawn Tibbits of the Luther Volunteer Fire Department.
Volunteers of all ages showed up with sponges and hoses, scrubbing away the grime left by the fires.
“The community really came together. It was amazing,” said Britni Davis, a volunteer. “We’re always willing to help each other in times of need.”
Tibbits said the support was overwhelming and reflected the close-knit nature of Luther.
“This is our church. This is our ministry. This is our community,” Tibbits said.
