Historic OKC hotel hosting Valentine's Day event

Valentine's Day is on Friday, and if you're looking for a night out with your special someone, the Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Downtown Oklahoma City has an experience you could enjoy.

The Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch traveled to the Skirvin Hilton to learn more about the upcoming "Sweetheart Serenade."

The event will feature dancing and music, but one of the highlights will be the menu created by head Chef Chris Barton.

"We've got an excellent menu, there's six courses total, we're going to show three of these here," Barton said. "The first is a saffron poached pear salad [with] watermelon radish and goat cheese. One of the courses is a sauteed halibut with a coulibiac of jasmine rice and apricot and fresh figs. Then, of course, the dessert is an apple pithivier with a strawberry and chocolate crust."

Barton said each of the menu items is an original creation by the kitchen staff.

"We've made a bunch of stuff here at the Skirvin," Barton said. "We've got plenty of Valentine's history and special menu, special dinner history. So for me, this is just a lot of fun."

Cocktails for the event were created by Skirvin Hilton Food and Beverage Manager Drew Gallegos, who said each one is special in its own way.

"All of these cocktails that are here are classics, I've just put some sort of special spin on it that I like for our pairings," Gallegos said. "We've got pomegranate and an old fashioned, we've got pear, a little bit of different specialty bitters, things like that that are going to go with our cocktails, all of these are going to be complimentary to what you're eating."
