When they ride, they ride with a purpose, defending those who can’t defend themselves.
“Bikers have the persona of being tough,” said Biker J-Bird.
These bikers embrace the biker culture, from the loud bikes and leather to even the biker names, like J-Bird, and Undertaker.
“Nine and a half. He can only count to nine and a half,” said Biker Nine and a Half.
But, come a little closer and you’ll see there is nothing scary about these guys, in fact, these are the good guys.
“We’re a body of bikers that exist solely to empower kids not to be afraid of the world in which they live,” said J-Bird.
They call themselves B.A.C.A., Bikers Against Child Abuse, and once a kid becomes a part of this group, they gain friends to help them through the really tough times of abuse.
“When we first roll up as a chapter, kids are usually pretty withdrawn, pretty scared,” said Nine and a Half.
But within a few minutes of meeting these guys and getting their biker names and vests, the walls come down.
“They’re climbing on motorcycles, and you know they’re just part of the group,” said Nine and a Half.
These not-so-tough, tough guys even show up in court for the kids when allowed.
“So that way the kids have a friendly face that they can focus on in the courtroom when they are sitting twenty feet away from their accuser,” said J-Bird.
“The judge asked the little girl if she was afraid of being in the courtroom, and she said no because my friends are scarier than his,” said Nine and a Half.
The bikers admit that it can be extremely emotional when their mission is complete.
“She said I want to thank you for everything you guys did for me, and I don’t want to see you again, because all you do is bring back those memories of the past and I’m trying to move forward,” said Nine and a Half.
There are B.A.C.A. chapters all over the world, the Central Oklahoma chapter was established in 2000. They are a registered nonprofit organization.
The central Oklahoma group is planning a big chili cookoff in March, to raise more money to help more kids. For information about the chili cookoff or the group visit their website here.
