The Jim Norick Arena is set to host its final rodeo this weekend before the National Finals Rodeo officially moves to Las Vegas.

“It’s a great weekend, especially for somebody like myself that grew up in Oklahoma,” said Cord McCoy. “Coming to watch these rodeos growing up and being a part of it was so cool and historic for me.”

Contestants from across the U.S., Canada, and Brazil are competing in the Oklahoma City Pro Rodeo, which serves as a qualifier for the National Finals Rodeo.

“We like to think it’s a big stop on the schedule,” McCoy said. “You get to see the next world champions compete right here in Oklahoma City.”

Alongside the cowboys and cowgirls, world-class bucking bulls will take center stage.

“If these bulls ever learn how to sign autographs, they’ll put the cowboys out of business,” McCoy joked, introducing two-time world champion bull Riding Solo and PRCA Reserve champion Pegasus.

For newcomers, McCoy had a simple message:

“Rodeo is pretty addictive. You can see the danger. You can feel the danger in it,” he said. “I love to watch the faces on first-time rodeo viewers.”

The final performances take place Friday and Saturday at Jim Norick Arena.
