Tuesday, Sept. 17 will mark National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide effort to get people registered to vote.
The Tulsa Voter Coalition is helping people research and vote in the upcoming general election.
The coalition is made up of several groups including, ‘Rock the Native Vote’, ‘Leadership Tulsa’, ‘League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Tulsa’, and ‘Tulsa Young Professionals’.
Jenni Gray, with TYPROS, said this year they will partner with The University of Tulsa to have five booths on their campus Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to get people registered to vote.
The Tulsa County Election Board says there were 391,377 registered voters in Tulsa County at the end of August. Gray said the goal is to increase voter turnout for November.
“We really try to focus on reaching out to and engaging with younger voters because Oklahoma had the lowest turnout for younger voters in the nation in the last general election. So, we would really try to not win that award this year, and we’re doing everything we can to turn that around," Gray said.
Oct. 11 is the deadline to register in Oklahoma. Gray said the OK Voter Portal is a great place to go for any questions about voting.
