Members of the Tulsa Police, Tulsa Fire, Bixby Fire, Jenks Fire, Berryhill Fire, Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals Office will go head-to-head in a barbecue cook-off at the 19th annual Badges, Beer & BBQ event.
Tulsa Crime Stoppers Executive Director and Councilor-Elect Karen Gilbert and Tulsa Police Officer Justin Beal stopped by the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to talk about the event.
They said the funds raised would be used to continue community policing programs such as Project Trust, Reading With A Cop, and their anonymous tip line, where rewards are given for tips that lead to arrests, 918-596-COPS.
Gilbert said the event is important for patrons to get to know and see the other side of officers and firefighters. She said most people only see police and firefighters during a crisis, and this event allows people to see them out of uniform.
Rib Crib will be donating the meat used in the competition and officiating it.
Officer Beal was the 2023 Grand BBQ Champion. His team won first place with ribs, brisket, and pork. The team came in second place with chicken.
Badges, Beer & BBQ will be at Chandler Park on the lower level on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $75.
There will be a live performance by Jacob Tovar. Emergency vehicles will be on site for display, and everyone is welcome to come.
Tickets are $75; they can be purchased here.
