People who live near Cry Baby Hill don’t like the city’s new proposed statute.

The city held a meeting with the people who live in the neighborhood Tuesday to explain how the design was chosen.

A drawing of the statue was leaked last month and the city told people Tuesday night that even though this might not be the final design, it’s pretty close.

The proposal has gotten a lot of backlash from people who live near Cry Baby Hill who say they just don’t like the design.

The city says the picture was leaked by the artist prematurely, but they aren’t surprised by the design.

The money was approved for a Route 66 monument in 2003, and that money can only be spent on something Route 66-related.

The city says the design is supposed to be kitschy and the artist was approved for that purpose.

People were able to give public comments at the meeting, and while one woman liked the design, most of the people did not like it at all.

They feel frustrated and don’t feel like the city listening to the opinions of people who live in the neighborhood.

“When I saw that picture, I'm like, what is that?” said Earlinda Hope, a neighbor. “I wasn't sure. At first, I thought it was a cartoon character. I kept looking at it, then I read about it. I said no, that's not going to work. I don't like it.”

Chris McCabe, the President of the Riverview Neighborhood Association, appreciated the city coming out to the meeting to talk to the people there.

“We're here Tuesday just to hear from the city, to let them explain to us that process,” said McCabe. “ I think there was a lot of people that felt, even though there was engagement, that their voice was not heard.”

News On 6 tried to contact the artist for comment but I was not able to reach him.
