They call it the 50-yard challenge. A social media challenge to encourage young people, mainly boys, to provide free lawn care for 50 people, but a Duncan girl proves you don’t have to be a boy and you’re never too young to face a challenge.

“Yes, I’m 10 years old,” said Bri Brooks, who completed the 50-yard challenge.

“Her parents saw on social media the fifty-yard challenge, and they challenged her to participate.

“My parents asked if I would accept it, and I said yes,” said Bri.

“Ok, we’ll see how well you fair with this, especially summertime in the heat,” said Bri’s dad Cody Lowe.

“Before this, I haven’t ever done any physical labor, so, I was more of a couch potato,” said Bri.

Leary of her commitment her parents bought her the infamous $50 lawn mower.

“From there on it was just all, boom, boom and bam,” said Bri.

She committed to cutting the yards for people who could not do it for themselves.

“I was not able to do my own mowing, I was just released from the hospital, and my doctor said do not even think about getting on a mower,” said Geary Heilman, one of Bri’s customers.

No matter the condition of the lawn Bri, cut them, never complaining.

“I wouldn’t feel too good looking out there seeing this girl just busting her butt with this mower,” said Karen and Ray Davis.

“It’s still tough to push, especially uphill, but you got used to it but it wasn’t easy,” said Bri.

After watching her struggle with the $50 mower it was time for an upgrade.

“The community came together, and they bought her a self-propelled mower,” said Davis.

“24 hours, less than 24 hours they raised the money,” said Lowe.

Bri was surprised with the new mower, and immediately gave her fifty-dollar mower to a single mother and her kids, so they could participate in the 50-yard challenge as well as keep their lawn.

But there is something even more special about this 10-year-old.

“When we were done then she would pray with them,” said Bri’s mom Jennifer Lowe.

“And even if they don’t want to pray with us, we will go back in the car and hold hands and pray,” said Bri.

“She’s got the heart and the right spirit, she’s a good Christian girl,” said Heilman.

With school starting Bri is wrapping up her lawn care for the summer, but she is already planning for next year, when she will help more people and work to find paying customers.
